Textiles NZ's Role


  • To assist the sector – internationally and domestically – to secure sustainable new markets and new customers
  • To promote the growth of textiles exports
  • To promote the use of research and development by textiles businesses
  • To ensure NZ businesses receive a fair go
  • To promote the value of employment in local manufacturing
  • To improve company performance by sharing best practice methods
  • To improve skills levels across the industry by encouraging more, and higher level training programmes
  • To strengthen the industry’s value chain relationships
  • To lift the profile of the industry and its importance to the NZ economy

From these goals, Textiles New Zealand has developed its own set of action plans and priorities, to help the industry achieve its strategic goals.

Textiles New Zealand operates on these underlying principles to:

  • Act as a catalyst for change and encourage an industry-wide approach to create an environment in which collaboration can flourish
  • Encourage textiles companies to see themselves as a design industry providing lifestyle solutions 
  • Strengthen business capability and the industry value chain
  • Provide a framework for textiles companies to communicate with each other, the government and other stakeholder groups
  • Encourage industry investment in specific textiles research and technology with market potential
  • Be the “voice of the textiles industry” by working with government and other industry organisations on policy issues
  • Leverage industry resources to attract additional project funding wherever possible
