Apparel and Accessories Selling Opportunity

A major world-wide environmental and geographic magazine is beginning to source for Fall (Autumn) and Holiday 2012, and they are looking for target companies that may be a good fit for them.

They are looking for apparel and accessories that are made in New Zealand that tell a cultural story. They are non-profit and telling the cultural story is part of their mission. For example, they sell Aran sweaters from Ireland, Scottish Argyle sweaters, and alpaca sweaters from Bolivia and Peru. Their customer base is 55+ years old looking for casual and travel clothing.

US Sees Launch of Online Game Changer for Plus Size Shoppers

US online plus size specialist Charming Shoppes Direct has launched new technology designed to enhance full figured women’s online shopping experiences.

Dubbed Fashion Genius, the system is being described as a breakthrough by its creators. It promises, in three minutes and with no measurements required, to guide plus-size women through a simple survey that links their curves, fit issues and signature styles to a wide array of bras, tops and bottoms suited to their individual figures.

The system will roll out on Charming Shoppes’ brands including LaneBryant.com, Catherines.com, FashionBug.com, Cacique.com and Sonsi.com.

Citing Fashion Genius as an internet first, Bill Bass, president of Charming Shoppes Direct, described the technology as a game changer for women who shop online. "Until now, searching for apparel online has been a frustrating hit or miss experience, lacking the personalisation necessary for finding clothes that fit," said Bass, adding that the company's goal was to create the internet's first fit search engine that would make shopping for clothes online as easy as shopping for a book or computer.”

Created by a team of mathematicians, computer scientists, and fashion industry experts, the technology is powered by an algorithm that uses 70 million points of data, and is the result of a Charming Shoppes research and development project that included 10,000 in-person fittings of bras, pants and tops and 1.25 million survey answers. Proprietary analysis conducted by Charming Shoppes during the Fashion Genius research and development phase revealed a strong correlation between the way plus-size women described their shape, their weight distribution and what areas they wanted to conceal.

It found 93 per cent of plus size women said they wanted to conceal their tummy, while 63 per cent said they wanted to conceal their arms. When buying jeans and pants, 65 per cent reported problems with gaping at their waist. Only one in 8 women were happy with the fit of their bras, with cup shape, shoulder strap and band lines cited as major issues. Plus size women also cited avoiding certain silhouettes and patterns, with stripes and narrow legged pants at the top of the list.
